In recent days it has come to light that Alejandro Santo Domingo has purchased a 20% stake in Petrus, allegedly paying €200m.
Originally reported by La Revue du Vin de France, this would be the most expensive price per hectare paid in Bordeaux, valuing Petrus at €1bn.
Petrus has 11.4 hectares of vineyards which breaks down to €87m per hectare.
Investor, Alejandro Santo Domingo, a Colombian-American businessman also owns a substantial share in brewer AB InBev via Group Empresarial Bavaria where he is chairman.
Other notable investments over the past year include Francois Pinault’s Groupe Artemis purchase of Clos de Tart for a reported €200m and French insurance firm SCOR’s purchase of Troplong Mondot for €178m.
